Terri Schiavo
This morning everyone is reporting that Terri Schiavo has died.
The political mess has only just begun.
I recall seeing web pages about Terri Schiavo many months ago and only recently has it become something that entered the national consciousness (if not the national conscience).
How many others are suffering similar plights?
Will this lead to changes in procedural law about findings of fact? Will it lead to improved definitions for various medical conditions? Will it lead to an understanding of the legal definition of abuse?
Maybe, but in my experience the national memory for such things is very very short.

What it should lead to for every last American is a Living Will. More legislation is not what we need, we need to be aware *because* of this incident.

The only abuse was against her husband. We witnessed people that felt the intense need to impose their views of morality upon others. The State of Florida has laws that deal with the Terri case, and fortunately the courts did not let anyone take away the rights of Terri and her husband. It is the right of her husband that prevailed - against the President, the Congress, and everyone else that had their own agenda to exploit Terri with.
Anyone ever notice that is was her husband that always kept this a private issue between him and his wife and doctors? I heard that while his in-laws were always making grand public displays going in and out of that facility her husband tried to stay private - going in and out the back doors (although once her tube was removed he stayed present practically full time - day and night).
So much hate was generated by those in-laws. So many rumors against the poor husband. Now the morbid crowd demands this woman be chopped up in an autopsy, demanding their right to know the results. A frenzy of hate - and to think some in government (Republican and Democrat) were part of this frenzy to take away the husband’s rights - even to the talk of the State of Florida taking custody away from the husband. All a very scary rights issue. I’m actually surprised the laws remained intact over the power of certain groups and individuals.
Personally I think Terri - the person, the soul - died over a decade ago. Only the body died today. I’ve seen the CT head scan and the huge amount of structure gone. Brain tissue does not grow back.

It is a sad day in America. We witness the slow and torturous murder of an innocent life. But we also witness the death of our rights. Along with the murder of Terri Schiavo came also the death of our most coveted right, the right to life. Now the judicial branch has established itself as a governmental force that can dispense death to any it wishes.

Her brain was liquified. She had no higher processing left; a dead frog will react to certain simuli, but it is not aware. Terri has been released. If she had any conscious thought left, the torture of the last 15 years is now over. R.I.P.

I wonder what kind of society would put the life of a wife into the hands of a husband who has a new family and could stand to gain financially (he won't say whether there is a life insurance policy on her) rather than her mother and father, who have no motive in her continued life, but love. Oh yah, its the enlightened North American society of 2005! That explains everything.
For God's sake people, he didn't even allow her family to be by her bed while she died! What more do you need to know?
