Is Your SUV Over 6000 Pounds GVW?

An article on Slate reports that some roads in California are restricted from vehicles over 6000 pounds gross vehicle weight and points out that a large number of popular SUVs exceed that weight, including:

  • Chevy Suburban and Tahoe
  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Ford Excursion (probably Expedition and Explorer, as well)
  • Range Rover
  • Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia
  • Lincoln Navigator
  • Mercedes M Class
  • Porsche Cayenne S
  • Hummer H1 (of course) and H2
  • BMW X5

What Slate did not list was my 2003 Dodge Durango which weighs 6400 pounds. And to think I didn't take that massive Federal tax break because I'm not self-employed.

I really haven't noticed any signs prohibiting travel of vehicles over 6000 pounds in my area, but there are certainly bridges that refer to 10000 pounds or more.
